Troy Sullivan, 62, of Absecon, was heading south on County Route 539 when he crossed the centerline and struck a 54-year-old Hamilton driver head-on around 5:25 p.m. near milepost 26, Manchester police said in a news release.
Sullivan was in a grey 2014 Chrysler 200 and the other driver was in a blue 2021 Chevrolet Spark. The Chrysler continued 150 feet before coming to rest in the northbound travel lane, while the Chevrolet spun approximately 270 degrees and came to rest on the northbound grass shoulder, police said.
Sullivan was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with severe injuries to his entire body and is listed in stable condition. The other driver was flown to the same hospital with injuries to both legs and upper body. She was also listed in stable condition.
Emergency crews from multiple agencies, including the Manchester Division of Emergency Services, Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Life Flight, assisted at the scene.
No charges had been filed as of press time. The crash remains under investigation by Patrolman Conner Yatauro of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
